About the Anguilla Financial Services Association (AFSA)

Welcome to the Anguilla Financial Services Association (AFSA)

Welcome to the Anguilla Financial Services Association (AFSA). We serve as a cornerstone for progress and cooperation, actively nurturing the expansion of Anguilla’s financial services sector.

As is often the case with groups, AFSA started informally in the very early 1990s – a period in which the most sophisticated piece of office equipment would be a desktop computer with a fraction of the memory or capacity that is commonplace now; when we saved documents to disks; we relied on fax machines (and thermal paper, the images on which have long since faded); and there was no internet available to us. Emails, social media and websites were similarly unheard of.

A casual exchange between a couple of people who worked in the industry led to some others being contacted – something along the lines of: “Hey guys, we’re getting together to discuss the industry over a meal or drinks tomorrow. Are you interested?” Before long, to the surprise of everyone, 10 or 20 were showing up. The first meetings consisted of a free-flowing exchange of ideas and shared experiences.

In 2011 as Anguilla Finance, through a collaborative effort between the Government of Anguilla and key industry players, the association has transformed into a central entity in advancing the island’s economic framework.

In present days, back as AFSA, we represent stakeholders which form the financial backbone of the economy of Anguilla.

Who we work with

AFSA and its members maintains a close working relationship with a number of organizations within our industry.

  • Industry regulations can be found on the site of the Anguilla Financial Services Commission (fsc.org.ai). The FSC aims to ensure Anguilla’s financial safety and integrity while striving to make it a leading financial centre through robust regulation, licensing, and governance.
  • Our members utilize the Anguilla Commercial Registry’s Commercial Registration Electronic System (CRES). Launched in April 2022, CRES facilitates global, round-the-clock online incorporation and management of legal entities, offering instant access to registration, data, and digital documentation while adhering to international standards.
  • For legal services we refer to the Anguilla Bar Association. Established in 1987 and corporatised on April 27, 2016, under the Legal Profession Act, 2016, the Bar Association seeks to maintain the rule of law, justice, and the interests of both the legal profession and the public. Some licensed lawyers also have Company Management Licenses and can incorporate companies. They are included in our Licensed Service Provider directory.
  • For understanding compliance matters we refer to the Anguilla Compliance Association, a member-led organization committed to supporting Anguilla’s Financial Services Industry.
  • STEP Anguilla is our resource for estate planning. STEP is a global professional body, comprising lawyers, accountants, trustees and other practitioners that help families plan for their futures.
  • Finally, we operate with the full support of the Government of Anguilla, which demonstrates its commitment to the industry by providing essential resources, supportive legislation, and offering both marketing and development assistance to foster growth and sustainability in the financial services sector.
AFSA Structure

How we are organized

AFSA took over the role of Anguilla Finance Limited, which used to handle the marketing of financial services in Anguilla. Now, we work closely with groups like the Anguilla Bar Association, the Anguilla Compliance Association and the Anguilla Financial Services Commission to do our job even better.

Please note that the members of AFSA can assist you in setting-up and administrating corporate entities in Anguilla. We refer to the section “Licensed Service Providers”.

The team representing AFSA team is set up to work well with different groups and people, making sure we reach our goals quickly and efficiently. We want to make Anguilla a top choice for financial services, known for its creativity, honesty, and high standards.
